Topic:

“Offshore, Brownfield Execution in West Africa”

AMEC, with more than 150 years of operation, has successfully executed many projects in brownfield environments. They have used proven techniques and implemented progressive learnings over the history of the company to plan and execute the work. Most of the challenges encountered are matters of degree rather than novelty; however they have also needed to adapt the application of their knowledge and experience to new circumstances for continued successful execution.

This presentation summarizes techniques that AMEC has employed that help to ensure success throughout all stages of project execution for brownfield work scopes. Some of the challenges addressed for a recent West African project were location and lack of local supply chain infrastructure. Other aspects considered include local content requirements, material availability and logistics, SIMOPs, as well as scope integration.

Kirk Barwick
Vice President Engineering, AMEC

Over the past 34 years, Kirk Barwick has held numerous corporate management, project leadership, and engineering positions for AMEC, the global consulting, engineering, and project management company. He currently serves as Vice President of Engineering for the company’s major Americas oil and gas execution center, based in Houston, Texas.  He is responsible for approximately 200 engineers and designers in Houston and for the engineering core of joint ventures Paragon Angola in Luanda, Angola, and AMEC Samsung Oil & Gas in Houston.  Kirk also supports AMEC KROMAV, the company’s South American operation based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Kirk’s experience includes international management assignments for projects ranging from new-build floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities, refinery modifications, and offshore topsides developments. AMEC’s Houston-based upstream oil and gas business grew exponentially under Kirk’s tutelage, including acquisition and execution of its first major contracts with ExxonMobil, providing extended-scope services for a series of brownfield Topside modifications to the Kizomba A and B FPSOs.
