Topic:

“2012 Community Indicator Report, Human Capital Development and Education”

Recent research shows that the biggest predictor of success for cities is the education level of the population. The Houston region currently sits in the middle of the pack nationally with just 28.4% of the population holding a four-year college degree. The region’s ability to be competitive in a global economy by attracting businesses and providing talent for 21st Century jobs rests primarily on the success of public education.

Ms. Mosbacher, President and CEO of the Center for Houston’s Future, will guide us through the 2012 Community Indicator Report, which views the issue of human capital development. The report examines public education from K-12 through Post-Secondary and Workforce Preparedness. Awareness of the region’s performance on key education related indicators is the first step to solving the human capital challenges that determine Houston’s future.
