February 2015 Roundtable

Topic:

“Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Floating LNG: A Technology Review”

An overall summary of technologies and state of the art process design methods involved in LNG and FLNG will be presented. The design of LNG and FLNG processes is heavily influenced by safety considerations and regulations. A review of turbines, emissions, methods to comply with Federal safety regulations, mixed refrigerants, liquefaction process selection and FLNG process and safety design considerations will be performed. Current projects and technologies used will also be mentioned.

Speaker:

Gabriel Castaneda, P.E.
Process Engineer, Gabchem Solutions

Mr. Castaneda currently works for Gabchem Solutions as a process engineer. He has previously worked in engineering for EPC companies and fabricators. In addition, he has given talks about current technologies in the process engineering field. He has a keen interest in the review, development and implementation of technologies and processes to reduce costs, increase production and improve returns. Mr. Castaneda holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Chemical Engineering from McGill University. He graduated with a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering from ITESM and he is a registered professional engineer in Texas and Alberta.

The Ley Student Center, located in the central part of Rice campus, is building number 45 on the campus map. The Central Campus Garage, which is the closest parking facility, is located at building number 53, to the left of the Ley Student Center across the street.

Rice University is a popular meeting location. In the remote possibly the underground parking is full, the second closest parking is the West Lot. Continue down the Laboratory Loop Road to the stop sign. Cross the street and the gate will be on the left. Be sure to bring an umbrella if the weather seems inclement.

The campus also offers a bus shuttle that runs about every 15 minutes as it loops the campus. Look for the bus stop signs to use or enjoy a short brisk walk!

Registration:

$25 per person for online registration and $35 per person for on-site registration – a boxed lunch will be served. At the time of registration, you will asked to indicate your meal choice of SANDWICH or SALAD or VEGETARIAN meal. We are unable to honor requests beyond these 3 options. Sammy’s is next door if you desire or need an alternative meal. PLEASE HONOR YOUR MEAL SELECTION WHICH WILL BE NOTED ON YOUR NAMETAG. $ 0 for Rice Students and $15 for Rice Faculty – registration required in advance. Online registration will close at Noon on Thursday, February 12. On-site registration is available on the day of the event for $35 per person.

In order to protect the privacy of the luncheon attendees, the list of attendees is not published or distributed.

This Roundtable qualifies for one (1) Professional Development Hour (PDH). Your email confirmation at completion of registration serves as your PDH and payment receipts. Paper receipts may be picked up at the registration desk at time of check-in.
