Topic:

“Trends and Disruptions in the Chemical Industry”

This presentation will cover the megatrends driving the chemical industry and its customer industries.  These trends explain the motives for chemical company actions, including consolidation, acquisitions and new R&D directions. The presentation will also explore disruptions associated with those trends, such as those caused by the proliferation of low cost natural gas in North America, namely – petrochemical & plastics capacity construction and supply chain disruptions.

Paul Bjacek

Accenture

Paul Bjacek is a Thought Leadership Principal Director and Head of Chemicals and Natural Resources Research at  Accenture. He has more than 25 years of experience in the process industries, including project activities in  manufacturing, marketing and distribution. Prior to joining Accenture in 2004, Paul was affiliated with Stanford  Research Institute and Chevron. He had been elected to positions in the American Fuel and Petrochemical  Manufacturers, the Society of the Plastics Industry and the Commercial Development & Marketing Association. He holds a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Business. Mr. Bjacek’s industry analyses frequently appear on Accenture’s chemicals blog site.

Location & Parking:

Grand Hall in the Rice Ley Student Center Detailed campus maps are available on the web at http://www.rice.edu/maps/ or download the map here here. The Ley Student Center, located in the central part of Rice campus, is building number 45 on the campus map. The Central Campus Garage, which is the closest parking facility, is located at building number 53, to the left of the Ley Student Center across the street.

Rice University is a popular meeting location. In the remote possibly the underground parking is full, the second closest parking is the West Lot. Continue down the Laboratory Loop Road to the stop sign. Cross the street and the gate will be on the left. Be sure to bring an umbrella if the weather seems inclement.

The campus also offers a bus shuttle that runs about every 15 minutes as it loops the campus. Look for the bus stop signs to use or enjoy a short brisk walk!

Registration:

$25 per person for online registration and $35 per person for on-site registration – a boxed lunch will be served. $ 0 for Rice Students and $15 for Rice Faculty – registration required in advance. Online registration will close at Noon on Thursday, April 6, 2017. On-site registration is available on the day of the event for $35 per person.

This Roundtable qualifies for one (1) Professional Development Hour (PDH). Your email confirmation at completion of registration serves as your PDH and payment receipts. Paper receipts may be picked up at the registration desk at time of check-in.
